Date: Wednesday May 22, 2002 Suddenly Awful Again Wow. Nobody takes an oh-fer quite like Jose Offerman. After last night's three-whiff special, Oh-ferman is down to .260, a precipitous, Nasdag-like, 83-point drop. He hasn't had a hit since Tommy Harper started tutoring him privately in the cage. If there's ever been a guy beyond coaching, it's Offy. Good luck trying to get him to stop quitting on the tailing fastball over the inner half. He gets rung up on that pitch every time. Complains every time too. His pathetic flail with the bases loaded in the third inning ensured that tonight's game would stay safely in the loss column, where Darren Oliver placed it with a sub-gritty effort. Two questions: 1) Why would you ever hit Offerman in the 2-hole and Trot down in the bottom third? 2) Wouldn't you have rather seen Wakefield get a spot start or Rolando "Human Torch" Arrojo even than Oliver on three days rest for the first time in his career? What ever happened to that Mike Stanley guy? He seemed like a sharp manager. Though I've tried to be Mr. Sunshine this spring - and the Townies sure have helped - why do I get that nervous, nauseous feeling that we'll be in second come Monday? Tony Clark goes deep tonight. You can put it on the board. |
