Mike Port press briefing, Fort Myers, 2:15pm
Mike Port: Take the ball and move forward in the best fashion possible. I'm
taking the job in an interim capacity and we'll go from there. Having been here,
knowing the personnel, I'd like to take this club in the direction we need to
go. I will serve until a permanent General Manager is named.
We haven't discussed on-field personnel yet, happened so fast. We'll be
having those discussions.
Are there things you might do differently?
Probably so. I'm a different background, experiences. Different people handle
things different ways. You role play in your job, time will tell as we take
things on a step by step basis.
I was concerned as there is an element of change, but we've tried to maintain
our focus, control the things we can.
Kerrigan? We haven't gotten that far. My perspective prior to an hour ago was
that Joe was the manager, but now we'll have to look at that going forward. At
this point he's the manager and we look toward a prosperous season.
I think as in any tenure, as a GM you have plusses and minuses. As being a
part of the Red Sox, we've made progress in a number of areas, but we need to
take it to the next level.
Keep your ownership advised and involved. Final decisions, I'm assuming full
responsibility of the position.
