"Ted Williams had the same type of relationship with the
Boston media,'' Dan Quayle-Duquette said. "Do you think it was reflective of Ted Williams's contribution to the Red Sox?''

Fired Executive Vice President, my father served with Ted Williams. He knew Ted Williams. Ted Williams was a friend of his.
Fired Executive Vice President, you're no Ted Williams.

Brave New Red Sox World.

Sox test NL mettle against Atlanta again.

Welcome Thome?

Jim Talks No-Trade With Cleveland Fans. Nothing Doing Now. Anything Can Happen. Burks on Deck.

Chris Dube: What are your thoughts on Jim Thome and a possible trade to Boston or Atlanta?

  Jayson Stark: (Chat 12:08 PM ET ) Mark Shapiro is going to meet with Thome and all his veteran players today and let them know where this thing is going. They can stay if they want, but they should know they're not staying to contend. Thome wanted to finish his career in Cleveland, but that's not happening, barring something unforeseen. So he can control his fate. And he's told friends he prefers to go to Boston because he loves Grady Little. I don't know if the Red Sox have enough to give Cleveland, because they're system isn't exactly loaded at the moment. But if they'll take all of Thome's salary ($4 million or so), the asking price in players would go down. Atlanta probably can't take on that much salary, from what I'm hearing. And I think Thome would prefer to stay in the AL.

Manny at the Bat

The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Fenway nine yesterday;
The score stood four to two, with but two innings more to play,
And then when Hillenbrand got to first, and Varitek did the same,
A pall-like silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The rest
Clung to that hope which springs eternal in the human breast;
They thought, "If only Manny could but get a whack at that —
We'd put up even money now, with Manny at the bat."
