THE DEAL DANCE

Hey Larry, If a Tree Falls Out of the Playoffs, and No One Hears It, Does It Make any Money?

Lucky Braces Us for No Move

''If lightning is going to strike in the next day or two, we will be a tree out there waiting to be hit, make no mistake.''

''If we don't make a deal, it will not be for a lack of effort on our part...it takes two to tango, and I assure you we've looked for dance partners all over our league and the other league.  This is not meant to suggest that we are throwing in the towel by any means. We think every team has an obligation to see if it can strengthen itself, and that means exploring all possibilities, large and small.''

Larry, like Mike Dukakis in 1987, you just don't get it. You can trade Nomar for a bag of nails at this point and could get away with it. You just have to make a move by Wednesday or the tree is going to lose a few limbs.

Another Must Win for Martinez.

Embree Oh No!

Another Eighth Inning Collapse

Late in the Evening

"And they learned to play some lead with Shea, they were undermanned in this funky place And I stepped outside the smoke myself a "J" And when I came back to the room Everybody just seemed to boo And I turned my tv up loud and I began to scream And it was late in the evening And they blew that game away"

Another One Run, Late Inning, Loss for Grady.

Sox drop to 3-15 in last 18 one-run games.

Playing Possum? Trading Fossum?

Cliff "Pink" Floyd, Colon in the range?

Kenny Rogers works overtime in the rumor mill.

Price Drop?  Our scouts on The Gambler, a.k.a. Matt Young part II:
"You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
know when to walk away, know when to run."

FYI:  Trot Nixon is Untouchable. Don't Even Think About It.

"It was one of the most exciting weekends I've ever spent in the game of baseball,'' Red Sox manager Grady Little said. "I don't know if it's us being snakebit or them having some Irish luck.''

Burkett Boycotts Keeping Ball in Park.

But has a good old time anyway. "I'd be happy if I had tickets to these three games," said Burkett. "They were very entertaining games."

He also adds oh-so-smugly "they'll probably be a strike in three weeks."

In the end, the Yankees Win?

"Red Sox Nation has never been the superpower. There is a part of Gammons that thinks New Englanders enjoy being second-class citizens. It gives them something to lament.
