Sox Get a Walk off Win Off The Wall 5-4
The Writing was on The Wall for a Ninth Inning Win as Orlando Redeems Himself for Last Night's "Cabrerrors" and Endears Himself to the Fenway Fans
Orlando's on the up-and-up! (That's the way The Wall bounces)
"It can't get better than that. The fans deseve it. Pedro pitched a hell of a game... the bullpen too. I got a lot of confidence when I was at the plate. I think I'm one for 20 against him (Speiers). I was looking for something up... it felt good. ...Making errors are natural. You have to forget about last night and just keep going... Unbelievable, I've done it in Montreal but it's not 35,000 people, these fans deserve it..." -- 8.17.04: Orlando Cabrera
Pedro was so-so. Tek, Damon keep Sox in the game. Roberts chips in. Manny picks Pedro up with great catch. Timlin, Myers hold the line. Foulke comes back strong.
Just for the Record: Johnny Damon and Jason Varitek
have been playing their asses off under the radar.
New Gammons: 8.18.04: "And don't think the Red Sox don't miss Trot Nixon's energy, snapdragon attitude and his ability (he was fifth in the AL in OPS last season)."
What Would Bill Say?
Reporter: How do you feel after
tonight's ninth inning win?
Red Sox Manager Bill Belichick:
Well, I certainly don't like the fact that we got behind early and had
to get to that point... relying on that bounce in the ninth. I'm not
sure how long it would have taken if we didn't score there. Or if we
would have even won.
The
starting pitching's been better than I saw tonight for sure. He's (Pedro) pitched better.
I'm not sure if his arm was tired because of the last game, you'll have
to ask him that. I'm sure he'll be acting like a complete horse’s ass on
the bench in a one-run game in the fourth inning tomorrow night, playing
“yee-haw” cowboy skin-to-win upper-decker something or other with Manny
Ramirez and some of the other clowns, laughing like a hyena while we
try to stay within double digits of the leader in our division. We've
got Wakefield going tomorrow night, so that's always a potential
three-run homer waiting to happen. Obviously, we've got a lot of work to
do and can't relish in the fact that we got lucky tonight.
We've got guys here planning wild card parties, trying to figure out which bar they're going to pour beer at in Kenmore Square. That's what I'm dealing with okay? Meanwhile we haven't won a championship since 1918 around here. So we've got a long way to go just to get into the playoffs. Well see what happens then. ...Is that it? You guys all set?
Oh yeah, Kevin (Youkilis) he has a sore lower body, more than that I can't really say. I am not a doctor. And, as for Dave (McCarty) I think he has a sore upper body, but again I am not a doctor, so your would have to ask someone else. |
